The 28 tram crosses Lisbon from Prazeres to Graça, in a long ride through the hills and the narrow streets, with a mandatory stop at Chiado. Chiado is one of the most alluring neighborhoods of Lisbon and the center of the cultural life, with its theatres, bookstores and cafés with literary tradition like Brasileira, where the statue of the poet Fernando Pessoa is waiting to meet you at the esplanade. Right next to it, in Bairro Alto, one of the oldest and lively neighborhoods in the city, there are restaurants, designer and fashion shops, along with taverns where you can hear the Fado, in which the Portuguese soul sings its fate. Downtown, the tiled façades show stories in blue and the sidewalk draws your attention to the floor where your feet walk among fish, flowers, birds and mermaids.
